Auto Service Technology
  • Diagnose, service, and repair a wide-range of vehicles alongside a certified Master Technician
  • Utilize advanced diagnostic equipment to troubleshoot and repair complex automotive systems
  • Use problems solving skills while working on today’s advanced computerized electrical systems
Program Description:

Equipped with the latest testing and diagnostic equipment, Auto Service Technology students learn: brake repair and front-end alignment, engine performance analysis, engine repair, and transmission service. Program completers can diagnose and repair electrical and mechanical systems of an automobile.

This teaching includes standards with the National Institute of Automotive Service Excellence and the National Automotive Technicians Education Foundation . Students successfully completing the program should be prepared for A.S.E. certification testing.  Senior students will be tested in NA3 speciality areas in the spring.

Areas of Study:
  • Safety - material handling, flammable material , operation of auto lift and shop equipment, along with general auto shop safety.
  • A.S.E. Areas:
      • Electrical and electronics - starting systems, charging systems, ignition systems, body control systems, lighting, and supplemental restraint systems.
      • Engine systems - ignition systems, fuel delivery systems, exhaust systems, cooling systems, and emissions systems.
      • Transmission and transaxle light service
      • Steering and suspension repair/service - 2 and 4 wheel alignment,
      • Fuel delivery systems repair/service
      • Tire repair and balancing
      • Conventional and ABS brake systems repair/service
      • Estimating
      • Parts identification and ordering

    Students will participate in local and regional Skills USA/VICA contest
    National Vocational Technical Honor Society
    Students will participate in the Ford-AAA Troubleshooting Contest
    Students will participate in the Columbus Automobile Dealers Association Contest
    Program Accomplishments:

    This program has produced many regional and state champions in the SkillsUSA contests. State champions earn the right to represent all of Ohio at the national contest in Kansas City, Mo. Professional certification opportunities for students meeting requirements.
