Program Description:

Welcome to the Teacher Academy Program.  The student experience at Tri-County Career Center is a unique combination of textbook learning and real world hands-on experiences.  We apply Science, Math and Communication Skills to career opportunities.Our approach to learning challenges students to obtain their very best potential.

Teacher Academy is a two-year program designed for students planning to major in education at a post-secondary college or university after high school. The program gives students an authentic look at becoming an educator. Beginning with foundations and principles of education, students will progress to working side-by-side with a teacher mentor in the classroom. The goal of this program is to give students hands-on experience in the classroom and a solid foundation in the world of education so they confidently enter college and pursue their advanced degree.

Course Requirements

  • College or Honors Track for Graduation
  • 3.0 GPA Minimum
  • 95% Attendance Rate
  • Counselor/Teacher Recommendation Letters (3)
  • Passing Score on all End of Course Exams
  • Own Transportation (Senior Year for Internships)
  • Evidence and High Expectations of Strong Professional Dispositions

College Credits:

The Teacher Academy Capstone Project is a professional portfolio that is organized similarly to the edTPA college seniors must complete. It includes extensive reflective writings and classroom artifacts that evidence a thorough understanding of pursuing a teaching career. The portfolio, combined with the internships, is the basis for college credit or advanced college standing.

Students who successfully complete Teacher Academy and obtain a score of 85% or higher on the Teaching Professionals Capstone Project will earn 3 semester hours of college credit (Introduction to Education) that can transfer to any state institution of higher learning.
